must - heal the broken-hearted

brian and i are blessed to gather with an incredible body of believers each week and hear God speak through our powerful pastor. our pastor speaks truth! it's sad that speaking truth in church can come at such a surprise to some people. but seriously, there is powerful truth spoken from the pulpit every week at our church. God is moving and inviting us to join him. it's awesome to be surrounded by so many others that just "get" what being a child of God is all about and how it is about being the body of Christ.

currently our pastor is doing a series about being about the Father's business. we MUST be about the Father's business. God has been speaking directly to my heart (as he always does) but more specifically during these past few weeks. most specifically a few weeks ago our pastor and his wife together spoke about how we MUST heal the broken hearted. broken heartedness can be defined as having your heart obliterated, devastated, and scattered. so often when we become broken hearted or know someone who has been broken we always ask "why God? why is this happening to me?" as christians we to often think that we live in a different world as non believers. bad things aren't supposed to happen to us. but in Matt 7:24-27 there is a story about a man who built his house a upon the sand and on the rocks. we all know the story. but have you taken notice to the fact that the rains and floods came to BOTH houses. we are not hidden from suffering. BUT (i love that our God always has a but) in Psalms 34:18 we are reminded
"If your heart is broken, you'll find God right there; if you're kicked in the gut, he'll help you catch your breath."
don't you love to hear that? our God saves! he takes care of those who's hearts have been obliterated, devastated and scattered! also in Ezekiel 34:16 God says:
"I'll go after the lost, I'll collect all the strays, I'll doctor the injured, I'll build up the weak ones and oversee the strong ones so they're not exploited."
God's going to go pick up all the pieces that have been scattered and he will bind them up. he will make us whole again. what hope we have in Christ! and what an opportunity we have as he invites us to minister to the broken hearted. how are you healing the broken hearted? how is your own broken heart being healed? know, that God is a healer. he promises to never leave us even when the floods come. so when we don't need to ask the question "why God?" we need to fall back on who we know God is. our Healer, Protector, Savior, Provider, Rest, Strength, and All we need!
